Joshua Center for Neurological Disorders
Organization

The dream of creating a place where families could find the resources they so desperately need became a reality in 1996 when the Joshua Center was created. The Joshua Center is a local 501(c)(3) organization that provides services and support for the social, emotional, medical and educational needs of neurologically impaired children and their families, including children with Asperger Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Tourette Syndrome. We offer a variety of programs, including clinical care, counseling, social skills training, life skills training, school support, an accredited summer camp program at the Rotary Club Youth Camp in Lee’s Summit, MO and education for parents and teachers.

With a dramatic increase in children diagnosed with these neurological disorders we felt the urgency to offer additional support to help school counselors understand and deal with the concerns these disorders present in the classroom. We invite you to submit questions and concerns for Mike Sumler, our therapist, to address.

Mike Sumler is a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist, experienced and knowledgeable in working with children, adolescents and adults diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome (TS), Asperger’s Syndrome (AS), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Associated Disorders. J. Michael Sumler, LMFT has worked almost exclusively with families with these disorders since February 2003. He has the unique ability to help the client access their own strengths and achieve success appropriate to their developmental level as well as educate the family to achieve the best parenting results possible. During the school year Mike is available to offer school observations and support.

"Let the good service of well-deservers be never rewarded with loss.
Let their thanks be such as may encourage more strivers for the like."
